About the Swall Institute

The Swall Institute is located on the eastern front range of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California at 6,900 ft with stunning views of the Sierra Nevada and White Mountains and the deepest valley in North America. It is approximately 20 miles north of Bishop, CA and 20 miles south of Mammoth Lakes, CA.

The Swall Institute is a small residence designed for flexible use for people who are more productive and creative when they have access outdoor adventures. The construction was guided by the philosophy of 'Sustainable Design', subject to the constraint that we were not professional builders (i.e., non-experts) and had to be creative with a tight budget.
